Workers' compensation offers a variety of benefits

Workplace injuries or illnesses permeate every employment sector in California. Of course, it may seem obvious that construction site workers or workers in the manufacturing industry may face dangers in the workplace leading to injuries. But other professions, even office jobs, can still present dangers. For example, a person could be injured after lifting something heavy or a person could suffer injuries if they have to make repetitive movements throughout their shift every day.

Unfortunately, after being injured or made ill on the job, a person may be unable to work for a period of time while they heal from their illness or injury. When that happens, they may want to seek workers' compensation benefits. There are a number of types of benefits a person can seek.

First of all, a person could seek workers' compensation benefits to recoup the cost of medical expenses. This includes costs associated with appointments with physicians, any lab tests that need to be done, the cost of medication and reasonable travel costs. A person could also seek temporary disability benefits if he or she cannot work, and therefore has not been able to earn their normal wages. In addition, a person could seek permanent disability benefits, which covers situations in which a complete recovery is not possible and a person has suffered a measurable permanent loss of some sort of bodily function, which can be physical or mental. Finally, there are supplemental job displacement benefits. These benefits help a worker receive training if the worker meets the requirements for permanent disability benefits, the worker's employer will not provide the worker with a job and therefore the worker does not go back to that place of employment.

Of course, this post is meant for informational purposes only and cannot guarantee what benefits a person applying for workers' compensation benefits may receive. In order to obtain more information about workers' compensation in California, a person may want to seek legal help. An attorney can examine the facts of a worker's case, and provide honest advice regarding the availability of workers' compensation benefits in that person's case.
