Two Pedestrians Hit by SUV in Oceanside

October 11, 2011

Two pedestrians were walking near the Electric Lounge in Oceanside on Monday at 12:30pm when they were struck by a SUV. The 67 year old, unidentified man was parallel parking his 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser when he accidentally hit the accelerator while the car was in Reverse. He then struck the two pedestrians, and caused a significant amount of damage to the business.

One of the pedestrians was transferred by ambulance to Tri City Medical Center, while the other was treated at the scene. The driver unharmed. It is not believed that drugs or alcohol played a role in this accident.

This is yet another example of the importance of having uninsured motorists coverage on your insurance plan. If the driver of the Toyota is uninsured, then the two pedestrians are left without any financial assistance for their medical bills. Seeing as how one of the pedestrians was transferred via ambulance, that could be a hefty fee before any treatment has even begun.

If you do have uninsured motorist coverage then your insurance company must pay for all medical bills, lost earnings, as well as any pain and suffering. You are protected under uninsured motorist's coverage as a driver, a passenger, a pedestrian, by or in ANY car. It is also important to know that your recovery is tax free. You can purchase your uninsured motorist coverage through any insurance company.
