Labor Day weekend is often known to be the last weekend to "party" before the end of summer. This typically leads to drunk driving and many accidents on our highways. Unfortunately, the statistics increased this past weekend from same reporting period as last year. The California Highway Patrol reported 84 arrests in San Diego County on suspicion of driving under the influence as of Monday morning. In 2010 there were 72 arrests for DUI over the Labor Day weekend.
The statistics also increased statewide from the previous year. There were a total of 1399 DUI arrests in California, an increase of 39 from 2010. There were 16 fatalities throughout the state – five more from last year.
We are thankful to the Highway Patrol for their dedication and hard work to crack down on drunk driving. Driving a car in the state of California is a privilege and we hope it can be respected by those behind the wheel. Driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol is not worth the risk you are taking when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle. If someone has been injured in an accident you should seek that advice of a Wrongful Death attorney to discuss your options.
