Sheriff's detectives are investigating a tragic accident that killed a 3 year old girl in Encinitas at 6:00 p.m Tuesday evening. According to investigators, Isabella Rodriguez suffered fatal injuries when a TV that sat on top of a dresser fell on her. The family said the garage area was used as a playroom. Isabella was going outside to play with a family member and her twin sister, when she walked into the garage to play instead of following them to the yard. Within a few seconds the accident occurred.
Rady Children's Hospital officials say they have seen an increase in the number of kids being injured by toppling TVs and other furniture. In June a 17 month old was killed when a 27 inch TV fell on her at a home in Oceanside. The Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that approximately 8,000 to 10,000 children are treated in emergency rooms each year as a result of similar accidents.
Please take this is a reminder to strap all your furniture to the walls and protect the children in the home from tragic accidents. As the mother of Isabella stated, it only takes a second.
